On July 31st, 2018, Pastor Virzola Law announced to the elders at Lindenwood Christian Church that she had accepted a position at Northway Christian Church in Dallas, TX. Soon thereafter the board of directors at Lindenwood, led by Richard Fisher, directed the establishment of a pastor search committee and appointed Mike Robb as its head. The committee immediately engaged the advice and services of our Regional Minister, Dr. Christal Williams. Applications were solicited through the denomination, the church, word of mouth, and beyond. After an initial period of organization, the group met approximately once per week to review and discuss candidates. The committee was comprised of Jim Allison, Brian Burks, Anna Hough, Regina Perry, Mike Robb, Mike Taylor, Rory Thomas, and Catherine Turner with Bill Hopper serving as an alternate, non-voting member. In general, the pastor search committee selects a candidate to put before the board. The board then votes for that candidate, a congregational meeting is scheduled, and the congregation votes.

Geoff Mitchell, of Big Life Community Church in Oswego, IL, was initially interviewed by video call and then in person at Lindenwood. Geoff was unanimously selected by the committee as the candidate and was then recommended to the board. The board approved him unanimously.

Geoff is a sixth generation disciple and the son and brother of Disciples’ ministers. He has successfully served four churches. He has two boys, Rhys, who is in college, and Clyve, who is 4 ½ years old. His wife, Marissa, is the Executive Pastor at Big Life Community Church and is integral to its success. After 7 ½ years of working together to launch Big Life Community Church, Geoff and Marissa felt open to a new opportunity that allowed Marissa to offer extra care and attention to Clyve who is autistic and non-verbal. Geoff received his B.A. from Texas Christian University in 1998 and his Master of Divinity from Brite Divinity School in 2002.

He has a proven record of leading souls to Christ. Here are the churches he has served:

  • Lead Pastor, Big Life Community Church (Disciples of Christ), Oswego, IL — 2011- Present

  • Pastor, First Christian Church, Keokuk, Iowa — 2007-2011

  • Founding Pastor, Community Christian Church, Aledo, Texas — 1999-2006

  • Pastor, Bethany Christian Church, Fort Worth, Texas — 1996-1999

Please continue to pray daily for what God has in store for our wonderful church. If you have any questions or comments please do not hesitate to talk to any of the Pastor Search Committee members.
