A Forty-hour Retreat for Disciples of Christ

RetreatA JOURNEY WITH CHRIST
The Journey to Bethany is an annual forty two-hour retreat designed primarily for members of the Disciples of Christ Church. The retreat is designed to enrich, strengthen and enthuse Christian women and men in their life-long journey with the living Christ

WHAT HAPPENS ON A JOURNEY TO BETHANY

You will spend 42 hours with other Christians studying, praying, singing and worshiping. As a member of a small group (called table groups), you will listen, take notes on and discuss the content of three outstanding and stimulating talks. These talks focus on the theme chosen for a given year. The theme changes each year but is always based on one of the Christian spiritual disciplines such as prayer, or scripture reading for spiritual formation.

You will experience worship at the lakeside chapel - morning devotions and a Saturday evening communion service. You will enjoy singing praise songs with others in the conference room and in the dining hall.

You will have a two-hour block of time on Saturday afternoon to use at your discretion - reading, praying, sharing one-on-one with the clergy or lay leaders, or hiking the fields and paths of the retreat center. Weather permitting you may want to swim in the beautiful pool, canoe on the lake, or play basketball or tennis.

The accommodations are clean, comfortable and inviting. Cottages sleep ten per side. The dining hall lends itself to real enjoyment of food and fellowship.

WHY SHOULD I ATTEND A JOURNEY TO BETHANY RETREAT?

Spending 42 hours with the risen Christ in a "modern-day Bethany" will strengthen you for your daily life at home, at work and at church. Those who spend time away from the ordinary demands of life - pressures of the daily "rat race" usually gain some insights into what is really important in the eyes of God.

Time spent reflecting on how one spends his/her money, energy and thoughts usually leads to a more realistic re-ordering of one's priorities. Time spent reading or listening to stimulating talks usually leads a person to look more closely at his/her own ideas and opinions concerning all of life. Time spent in prayer and solitude waiting for a word from God usually enriches one's life and strengthens one's faith. Time spent singing praise songs and sharing one's faith with other Christians usually brings a deeper measure of joy, peace and hope. The very fact that a person recognizes his/her need for retreat is a healthy sign. The Spirit is using this hunger to lead us to a time of refreshment and re-creation. The Journey to Bethany is an opportunity for you to grow spiritually!

THE PURPOSE OF JOURNEY TO BETHANY
The focus of Journey to Bethany is the renewal of the individual Christian who sincerely desires to be Christ's disciple - one who desires to become more deeply involved in Christian Action at home, at church and in the work place.
